How Gemini 4 performs inside the CAAC Go customer-service agent

Gemini 4 captured more leads and handed off missing knowledge more often than GPT-5.6 Terra. It was also slower, costlier at list price and more likely to add claims the supplied business knowledge did not support. Across all 150 cases, neither model showed a statistically significant overall advantage.

The evaluation question

Should CAAC Go deploy Gemini 4 for customer-service conversations, and for which workloads? We compared it with a GPT-5.6 Terra baseline on task completion, groundedness, lead and booking actions, handoff behaviour, latency and cost.

This is an agent-level deployment test, not a general ranking of the underlying models. Both models ran inside the same CAAC Go prompt and tool loop; provider safety filters remained part of each deployment. Retrieval was deliberately removed as a variable by placing the full business knowledge in context.

The overall result does not establish a winner. Both models passed 83 of the same cases. GPT-5.6 Terra alone passed 27; Gemini 4 alone passed 21. The paired difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.47), so the deployment decision should be based on the observed trade-offs and confirmed with more repeated runs.

What Gemini 4 changed

  • 01

Gemini 4 did not show a statistically significant overall advantage. It fully passed 104/150 cases (69%), compared with 110/150 (73%) for GPT-5.6 Terra. In the paired comparison, Gemini 4 alone passed 21 cases and GPT-5.6 Terra alone passed 27; the difference may be due to chance (p = 0.47).

  • 02

Gemini 4 was much more willing to save a lead. When a visitor left a name and contact and asked to be called back, Gemini 4 saved it in 11/16 cases, against 2/16for GPT-5.6 Terra. GPT-5.6 usually asked for one more contact channel first, so the lead wasn't saved on that turn.

  • 03

Gemini 4 handed off missing knowledge more often, but not more precisely. Gemini 4 reached 96% handoff recall against 88% for GPT-5.6 Terra. Handoff precision was similar (79% vs 78%), so both models still escalated some questions the knowledge could answer.

  • 04

Gemini 4 made more unsupported additions. 9% of Gemini 4 replies contained a business claim the supplied knowledge did not support, compared with 4% for GPT-5.6 Terra. The pattern was usually a helpful-sounding extension of a policy or service, not a random answer.

  • 05

Gemini 4 was slower and wrote about 2.7× more. Its median agent-turn latency was 3.0 s versus 2.3 s, and its average reply was 266 characters versus 98. The judges rated the resulting reply quality similarly (4.65 vs 4.62 out of 5), so the extra length did not produce a clear quality gain.

  • 06

Gemini 4 did not win on cost in this run. At the measured token use, Gemini 4 cost US$6.10 per 1,000 conversations on its introductory price and US$12.21 at standard list price, compared with US$5.09 for GPT-5.6 Terra. Actual production economics will depend on negotiated pricing, caching, prompt size and traffic mix.

  • 07

Some failures belong to the deployment or agent instructions, not the model alone. Azure's content filter blocked 6of 12 attack prompts before GPT-5.6 Terra saw them. Both agents also asked for another contact method instead of handing off when a visitor said “just get me a person”. Those outcomes reflect the full agent stack, including provider filters and CAAC Go's instructions.

By visitor language

About 65% of the messages real CAAC Go visitors send contain Chinese, so Traditional Chinese carries the second-largest share of cases here. Two businesses keep their knowledge in Chinese and four in English, so many replies require answering in a language other than the source.

“2 kids, one in P4 and one in Sec 1, both just maths. what would we pay per month? any discount for siblings?”

GPT-5.6 TerraPass

P4 Maths is S$280/month and Sec 1 Maths is S$320/month. With 10% off the second child’s fees, the total is S$568/month if the Sec 1 child is the second enrolment, plus a one-time S$50 registration fee. What’s your email so we can help arrange their free assessments?

Gemini 4Fail

For one subject each, Primary 4 is S$280 per month and Secondary 1 is S$320 per month, plus we offer a 10% sibling discount off the second child's fees (there is also a one-time S$50 registration fee per child). New students start with a required free 45-minute assessment or a S$40 trial class (deducted from the first month's fees if you enrol). To get your children started with a booking, could you please share your email address first?

Both get the prices right. Gemini 4 adds that every new student starts with an assessment “or” a trial class. The knowledge says the assessment is required, so the claim is unsupported.

Cost uses each model's measured tokens on this benchmark and its published list price: Azure OpenAI Global Standard for GPT-5.6 Terra, and the Vertex AI global endpoint for Gemini 4. Gemini 4 is on an introductory price until 30 November 2026, and the standard rate applies after that. Latency is end to end for one agent turn, measured from Taiwan.

Deployment decision

Do not switch the agent globally to Gemini 4 from this test alone. Gemini 4's 69% overall success rate was not significantly different from GPT-5.6 Terra's 73%, while its groundedness, latency and standard-price economics were worse in this run.

Use Gemini 4 as a targeted deployment candidate for lead-focused flows. Its 17/24 successful lead or booking actions versus 10/24 is commercially meaningful enough to validate in a controlled production test. Before wider rollout, repeat each case, add human review for unsupported claims and measure real lead yield, false capture, handoff quality, latency and cost per successful outcome.

This is a deployment recommendation inferred from this test, not a statistically proven model ranking. The lead and booking comparison contains only 24 cases, and every case ran once.

How we tested

The agent.Every reply comes from CAAC Go's production agent code. Both models get the same system prompt, the same tools (save a lead, record a booking request, hand off to a person) and the same rule for picking the reply language. Only the model deployment changes. Retrieval is held constant: each business's full knowledge base is in context, so this test isolates model behaviour within the CAAC Go agent rather than measuring CAAC Go's retrieval or end-to-end product quality.

The cases. There are six fictional businesses, one each: a clinic in Taipei, a form and survey SaaS, an online clothing store, a tutoring centre, a home-cleaning company and a café. Each has 25 cases in nine task types. The question styles, languages and task mix follow anonymised patterns from real CAAC Go conversations. No customer data or wording is used.

The grading. Two judges from different vendors grade every reply against the business knowledge and the case's expected behaviour: GPT-5.5 on Azure and Gemini 3.1 Pro on Vertex AI. Neither is a model under test. A judged criterion passes only when both judges agree. Behaviour the system can observe directly is checked mechanically, not judged: whether the agent handed off, and whether it saved a lead or booking. The judges agreed on 88% (GPT-5.6 Terra) and 87% (Gemini 4) of replies.

Limits.

  • 150 cases give wide error bars: about ±7 points on the overall rate, and much more within a task type. Treat category gaps of one or two cases as noise.
  • Each case ran once at default settings.
  • GPT-5.6 Terra ran through an Azure deployment whose content filter blocked some attack prompts. That is a deployment setting, not the model itself.
  • Gemini 3.8 Flash was also run, but it is left out of this edition. In our agent's tool loop it often returned no text after saving a lead, so the comparison would not have been like for like.
